Portals and Poetry: A creative and somatic gathering for racialised bodies

About Portals and Poetry

Portals and Poetry is a creative and somatic gathering for BIPOC/Global Majority folx, exploring belonging, joy and collective connection through self-life drawing, poetry, reflective writing and mindful movement. Together, these practices offer different ways to connect with our imaginations, our bodies, and each other.

This event will be co-facilitated by Collective Being team members Suralini (she/her) and Tea (she/her), both of whom are trained in trauma-informed and somatic approaches to wellbeing.

Please note that no experience in art, writing or somatic practice is needed.

What to expect

All of Collective Being's events and offerings are trauma-informed and mental health aware.

Everything offered will be invitational, and you’re welcome to participate in the ways that feel accessible and supportive to you.

Snacks will be provided, and there will be time to gather informally and connect with one another.

About the facilitators

Suralini (she/her) lives on Wurundjeri country as a neighbour, sister, friend, eldest daughter, niece, aunty and beloved. Through her facilitation, writing and organising work, she is active in projects that gather people together for learning, connection, and community growth. Her approach is grounded in Sri Lankan socialist history and Catholic liberation theory.

Tea (she/her) is a Filipino-Australian artist, storyteller and wellbeing facilitator. Her practice is informed by yoga, theatre and decolonisation theory, with a focus on cultural identity, belonging and feminism. She facilitates spaces for deep rest, embodiment, and reflection, grounded in social justice and liberation.

Pricing and access

To cover delivery and venue costs, tickets for this event are $20. If you are experiencing financial duress, reduced-rate places are also available.
