About this series
Mindfulness practices can wrap around what is complex or stressful, providing comfort in uncertain times. They can also help us to align our actions with our values - noticing, for instance, when reactive habits are pulling us away from how we want to show up, and building the capacity to choose differently. In this series, participants will explore mindfulness-based practices and teachings for navigating stress, including that related to the polycrisis, and the more intimately felt impacts of a changing world.
Our director Jo Buick (she/her) is delivering this free series by invitation of the University of Melbourne’s Contemplative Studies Centre.
What attendees can expect
This series aims to create time and space for being with complexity, change and stress. Weaving mindfulness practices with poetry, neuroscience and reflective practice, attendees can expect a spacious, immersive and heart-centred weekly practice space.
Jo’s approach is grounded in a commitment to social justice, and as such, acknowledges the systemic causes for much of the stress that people experience. During this series, we will meditate on how we might respond skilfully to the often unpredictable conditions we find ourselves in, while recognising what is not ours to fix or carry alone.
Each session will include a combination of a weekly theme, guided mindfulness practice, and reflective practice. This mindfulness practice is trauma-informed and mental health aware. Attendees can expect an environment that is warm, invitational, welcoming of difference and grounded in trauma-informed principles and practice.
