Applied Somatics Practitioner Training

Designed for practitioners to learn and apply somatic practices in therapeutic settings, educational and learning settings, frontline contexts, and other aligned areas of work and life — to support personal healing, embodied justice, social transformation, and community resilience.

Our Applied Somatics Training is open to all practitioners, with no prior experience with somatics or meditation needed.

Why Somatics?

Research shows that stress, anxiety, and trauma don’t just affect the mind—they also shape the body, influencing the nervous system, muscles, and physiology. Yet, many conventional approaches prioritise cognition, often overlooking the body’s role in recovery and regulation.

Somatic practices—grounded in research on nervous system regulation and mind-body integration—use movement, breath, and awareness to restore balance. Studies in neurobiology and stress physiology demonstrate that these approaches can improve emotional regulation, resilience, and adaptability. Beyond clinical settings, somatic practices offer powerful tools for learning, leadership, collaboration, conflict management, and peer support.

By integrating body-based practices, we can create environments where people are better equipped to navigate stress, sustain wellbeing, and build stronger, more connected communities.

Our Training Model

Applied Somatics is a 20-hour Practitioner Training with 2 x online sessions and 2 x full-day in-person sessions.

Key training topics:

  • Introduction to the history and lineages of somatics  

  • Science, theory and evidence-base of somatics 

  • Introduction to core somatic interventions  

  • Applied practice of core somatic interventions 

  • Adaptations for diverse settings and communities 

  • Community and clinical case studies

  • Live Q&A with Collective Being facilitators 

This training also prioritises practitioner care, and the embodiment and application of skills to support nervous system regulation for practitioners in their work with clients and communities. 

Following participation in all aspects of the training, participants receive a Certificate of Completion of Collective Being’s Applied Somatics training.

Applied Somatics FAQs

  • Somatic practices can include gentle movement, breathwork, grounding techniques, guided touch, and mindful awareness of bodily sensations. Whether applied in therapeutic, group-work, educational, or creative settings, somatics can support individuals in navigating uncertainty, building emotional and physiological resilience, and staying connected to their values. In therapeutic work, somatics helps clients find agency beyond survival responses. In group settings, it fosters trust, collaboration, and learning. In education, it supports focus and integration, while in creative spaces, it scaffolds expression and risk-taking.

  • At Collective Being, we create spaces where somatics is not just about individual transformation, but about reimagining new ways of being together. By supporting deep, embodied connections—within ourselves, with others, and with the world around us — we work toward a future where healing is not just possible, but accessible to all.

    In January 2023, we piloted our 30-hour trauma-informed somatics training with our facilitation team, and in May 2023, we launched our first public Applied Somatics training.

  • This training focuses on learning and applying somatic practices that can be safely integrated into:

    • Therapeutic settings

    • Educational and learning environments

    • Coaching and case management

    • Peer work

    • Embodiment and meditation facilitation

    • Frontline contexts

    • Other aligned areas of work and life

    The training also prioritises practitioner care, supporting nervous system regulation for those working with clients and communities.

    Core topics covered:

    • Introduction to somatics (history, lineages, adaptations)

    • Science, theory, and evidence base for somatics

    • Introduction to somatic interventions

    • Applied practice of somatic interventions

    • Adaptations for diverse settings and communities

    • Community and clinical case studies, including a live Q&A with Collective Being facilitators

  • You will receive:

    • A manual with practical tools, strategies, and somatic practices

    • A pre-recorded video of core somatic practices for personal use.

  • There are no prerequisites. We welcome both beginners and those with personal and/or professional experience.

  • The training is 20 hours in total. 16 hours are delivered in-person, and four hours online.

  • The training includes a combination of embodied practice, lecture-based learning, small group discussions, individual reflections, and whole group discussions.

    At the beginning of the training, we will co-create a Community Agreement to guide our interactions. You are welcome to engage in ways that feel authentic to you.

  • Yes. Upon completing all aspects of the training, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for Collective Being’s Applied Somatics Training.

  • Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement. The studio is a shoe-free space, so if you prefer to have your feet covered, please bring or wear socks. Chairs are available for those who prefer not to sit on the floor.

    • Lunch or snacks (a fridge is available, and there is a café across the street)

    • Any other items that support your comfort and learning

    Yoga mats, bolsters, blankets, and blocks are provided, but you may bring additional cushions or other support items if needed.
